The Education and Mexico: Two Distant Processes

Education is a concept inherent in all cultures of the world, education as expressed by pre-Hispanic peoples, was essential for the development of their societies. Quite apart from meaning a process that prepared its citizens to continue with the traditions and regulations, it meant giving the members of the community “a face and a heart”, that is to say: wisdom, intelligence, morals and much more. But this process came to a standstill when religion went further and interrupted the magnificent process that education meant, it transformed it but not in the way that education transforms peoples, rather, it prevented them from progressing. But how did this happen? How did we come to think so differently about education in such a short time? From thinking that education was giving wisdom to having an education that dogmatized and intellectually enslaved.
