The Code is a set of recommendations aimed at regulating the marketing of breast milk substitutes. In 1981, the World Health Assembly approved the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes as a requirement to protect and promote adequate feeding of infants and young children. The purpose of this code is to contribute to providing safe and sufficient nutrition to infants, protecting and promoting breastfeeding and ensuring the correct use of breast milk substitutes and having adequate information when these are necessary since these must be available. When they are needed but not promoted. In 2017 a study on "Violations of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes in Mexico" identifies multiple violations of the Code. Given this, strategies must be implemented to achieve the objectives and enforce said code.
