Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe sexual self-esteem and attitudes toward condom use among people living with HIV in Villavicencio, Colombia. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive design was used with a sample of 150 participants selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. A sociodemographic questionnaire, the Sexuality Scale, and the Multidimensional Condom Attitudes Scale were administered. Results showed relatively low levels of sexual self-esteem and high scores in sexual depression and sexual preoccupation. In contrast, attitudes toward condom use ranged from intermediate to favorable levels, although variability was observed across dimensions, particularly in negotiation. It is concluded that sexual health in people living with HIV should be addressed from a comprehensive perspective that includes emotional, relational, and preventive components.
